Ticket for use of closed lane

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

Hi
Her is my recent story that occurred Christmas week. I am almost positive I will contest. Unless in your experience you say absolutely not to. But even then…

Week before Christmas I was on my way off the Montreal Island by Champlain bridge. It was 7.30 am, and the most left lane is closed and used for inbound bus traffic. The lane is “closed off” with cones located approximately 200 m before the span.

Minor with alcohol ticket

Monday, December 5th, 2011

Hi,

Recently i got a ticket for possession of alcohol (1 beer….) outside of my university ( its frosh week) and am not happy about it at all. But upon looking at my ticket I noticed a few errors. He didnt use my full first name, wrong postal code, wrong streetname spelling, and also wrote that the wrong address on the “highway (if applicable)” section because it wasnt near the highway, so isnt applicable i wouldnt think. I also got an obstruction of justice ticket for lying about not having my wallet, which is a charge under the criminal code, but the officer didnt fill out any of the “Statement of Issue of Appearance Notice to Accused” portion on the back of my court order.

I’d really appreciate your help!

Thanks!

Ticket because i did not hold onto my transfer

Sunday, March 27th, 2011

I just got home on a Sunday night out with friends.  I had purchased 6 tickets from the metro vendor a few weeks ago.  When I got on at McGill station, I used a ticket, ran it through the machine, collected it and then discarded the ticket, since I live in walking distance from Jolicoeur station.

When I arrived at Jolicoeur, I received a ticket for $214 because I did not hold onto my transfer.  The transfer I believed I no longer needed, since I was not taking a bus afterwards.  The 4 STM “police” told me if I did not provide proof of identity I would be arrested on the spot.

They also told me they did not have to provide information about this “new policy” of having to hold onto transfers because it was on their website, and on the transfer itself.  But it was not a bilingual transfer, so being an Anglophone, I was unaware of this new
“law”.

Please advise me on the best way to contest this ticket, because I will leave the province before I pay one red cent of this illegal, immoral and unconstitutional ticket.

Regardless of the fines that varies depending on the infraction, the number of points also changes… About the BES, in an other article we already displayed the chart of demerit points for BES.

So for everybody’s benefit, the chart of demerit points for all the other infractions.

Take notice that there is a certain number of demerit points for which there is a fine but no demerit points…

Hit-and-run for a sidewalk chain damage

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

The story of Francois will probably surprise you… By taking a curve to fast, his car hit a sidewalk chain… and caused a flat tire… not lucky! In order to avoid breaking his car, he left it there since he wasn’t living far ahead…

Toc, toc… here is a ticket for hit-and run for a sidewalk chain damage ! Outch !

***********
So here are the facts.

Last Friday, it was about 18h15. I was getting back from work and I took the little street of my neighbourhood. The breaks of the car weren’t in good shape and I missed the curve. Results, I got on a sidewalk chain and got a flat tire. Since I was at about 500meters from my home, I called my girlfriend so that she could come and join me, finally we have decided to let the car there in order to avoid damaging the flat tire even more and we decided to get the car after dinner.

2 hours later, the door bell rang, and an officer informed me that there was a complaint that I was driving fast, and that I did a hit-and run since the sidewalk chain is damaged furthermore, there are marks of tire on the grass and that I didn’t communicate with the police. How can they confirm that I was the one that broke the chain, when she is damaged everywhere ? No wonder in front of which house it is. (more…)

Ticket from the STM

Monday, January 17th, 2011

Mymy story that didn’t pay her metro ticket since the clerk was not at his position… is it possible to contest the ticket from the STM ?

********

Hello,

I would like to have your opinion on my story that happened yesterday at the STM. Yesterday, I was entering the metro to pay, I noticed that their was no employee at the paying booth and that there was nothing written on the window saying at what time the employee will be back or to pay in the machine that is not at the citizen view. So I passed the turnstile without paying the 2, 75$ that I still had in my hands. While I was getting down the stairs, a police woman asked for my proof bill that I didn’t had. That is when she asked for two identification cards for of course giving me a ticket! I told her that nothing was written upstairs for me to pay or any other indications. I still got my 2, 75$ in my hands, but of course in order to make more money, the police is always right. Then I explained my situation to the other officer and he told me “We are going to do this simple, you will take to the judge !” So I went home, with a 118$ fine. (more…)

Turning left on forbidden hours

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

Not always easy to understand the road signs… Mostly when there are hours involved… Even less when our clock is not at the right hour! Talk to Claude about this, he got a ticket for turning left on forbidden hours !

******************
Hello,

I got a 154$ ticket by an officer for turning left on forbidden hours, thing that I never do. I will briefly explain the situation.

I recently change a fuse in my car, which stop the clock from working. When I replaced the fuse, the clock started back from zero and unfortunately I didn’t notice this small detail. (more…)

Ticket given to a bailiff

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

Hiiiiii, it is always better to pay our debts on time…
Is a city in right if she puts the tickets in the hands of a bailiff ?

********************

To whom it is destined,

I would like to know if the city of Montreal has the right to give tickets to a bailiff ?

If yes, they I need to pay the 404,31 amount (when it was given to the bailiff) and he charges me 10% of interest each month and now it will cost me more then 500$. I am 21 years old and I lost my drivers licence last march and I am just starting to work. My folks let me stay at their place in order to allow me to put my money away to pay my tickets which are over 1200$ plus this tickets to the bailiff. What should I do ?

I thank you for the information that you will give me please, shortly.

My opinion :

It seams normal that a bailiff tries, with legal ways, to get his money back… In the case of a city… I don’t know. I strongly recommend consulting with a lawyer and paying your debts and put away your car…
