Ticket for not stopping at a stop sign

Monday, December 5th, 2011

Hi,
A few weeks ago, I was pulled over for not stopping at a stop sign.

I was approaching a T-intersection near my house … I saw that there were no cars, pedestrians or bicycles near the intersection. I did a very quick stop at the stop sign and looked to my right to see that there were 2 cop cars parked side-by-side up the street about 60m away. it looked like they were chatting with each other. When I pulled away from the intersection one of the police cars pulled me over and said she never saw my wheels stop rotating and wrote on the ticket that I went through the stop sign at 20km/h. I’m sure I stopped at the sign, even if it was very brief.

Do you think I have a chance of winning if I contest this ticket?

Thanks in advance!

Ticket for not stopping the vehicle while facing a stop sign

Monday, December 5th, 2011

Hello,

Today an officer gave me a ticket for “being the driver of a road vehicle and not stopping the vehicle while facing a stop sign” c.C-24.2 of the Highway Safety Code.

The penalty was $156 and 3 demerit points. I was clocked at 15km/h. What happened: I was behind a van who stopped at an intersection with 4 stops and then turned right. I stopped behind him, made my own brief stop at the stop sign and also turned right. What are my chances of winning if I contest this ticket?

Thanks,
Ruth Anne Shooflar

I was stopped this morning on Royalmount for not stopping making a complete stop. I KNOW I did stop if you don’t it would be suicide, I have been making the same stop for 12 years, force of habit, if you don’t stop you are in danger of getting hit by a truck or other vechicles (a no no) You MUST stop. I want to contest this ticket but, it’s hard to prove a stop sign, my word against hers, I had no witness in my car to help me out, all I know is that I always stop there. high traffic area, I call it the danger zone if you don’t or won’t stop.
The officer was very polite but, very wrong and unjust, she told me I had 30 days to contest it.
154$ and 3 demerit points ouch… big pill to swall for something I am not guilty of…

I should contest it but, I want to pay the ticket in good faith…. not sure how to handle this since, I am still in shock.

What should I do, pay first and contest later or?

Thanks in advance for your help!
Joy

Ticket for not stopping

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

We don’t often agree with the officer for the ticket he gives us… Here is a typical story from Michael who got a ticket for not stopping…
According to the officer… ;-)

His story :
****************

Hello,

I just got a ticket for not doing a safe stop to my big surprise.

I was following a car that stopped at the intersection (a T) with an obligatorily stop. I was behind this car and, according to the officer; I started to drive at the same time then the other car.

The stop line was far, at about 15 feet of the corner and I am certain that the car in front of me was far ahead from the line, so when I did my stop, I was on the line, where I did my stop before driving forward.

Is this contestable ?

ticket for not doing a full stop

When a street is quiet… we are alone… we drive slowly… can this allow us to slip at the stop ??? Question from Marie-France who got a “ticket for not doing a complete stop”…

****************

Hello,

I am writing to you to know if it is worth it to contest my ticket. I just got arrested at 10:52pm on a quiet street because I didn’t do a complete stop.

I was driving at 20km/h but there was no one on the stop to my right except the police car far away, the one who arrested me, all of this cost me 154$ and 3 demerits points. I can’t believe it. They took 10 minutes to print the ticket. I was arrested at on a vacant space at the side of a red traffic light on a light lightened street. When they drove away, they did a U-turn on a full simple yellow line to go back at their initial location. Is it worth it to contest for this ? I can believe it that we can be arrested for this. While they were printing the ticket, a car passed on the yellow light and didn’t have any problem !

What do you think ?
Thank you.
154$ is a lot of money when most of all you drive safely !

My opinion :

I don’t think that you stand a chance… sorry…

Driving safely, is first of all respecting the signalisation…

Ticket for not stopping the vehicle in front of a stop sign

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

The “American” stop is often made in Quebec… But sometimes our stops are well made… Like in Claire case…

I got a ticket on September 30 for not stopping the vehicle in front of a stop sign.

I am certain that I did my stop. I looked on my right (no car) on my left a car is coming towards his stop and he has a defective light, I then notice that it was a police car. I turn in the Metro’s parking lot and I was surprise to see the police car behind me thinking why.

The officer tells me that I slipped my stop. I told him at that moment that he got a defective front light. His colleague goes and checks it out.

Do I have some chances of winning if I contest this 154$ and 3 demerit points ticket ?

I haven’t got a ticket since 1981.

Stop sign not visible

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

Andre’s question is about a ticket for a stop… but in his case, the stop sign was not visible…

S.O.S… Help me please.stop sign not visible

First of all good morning or good evening !

Thank you for this marvellous site of yours; it gave me the courage to contest my ticket.

However, I have a question to ask you.

Here is my situation…
I was on my working hours in my vehicle; I was following my work colleague that was driving the company’s truck for who I work in front of me. There was a stop sign but I pass by without stopping just like the two vehicles that were in front of me.

For the simple reason that the flashing light was on the right of the road hidden by a van and his 53feet trailer… it was impossible to see that there was a stop since the flashing light was hidden.

Is my case one that can be won because of the fact that the flashing sign was not visible and that the boulevard center divider strip stop was nonexistent ?

Thank you to take the time to help me and all the other people that are falsely accused.

Ticket for not doing a COMPLETE stop

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

Sometimes, we slip our stops… but sometimes we don’t… but why do we always get caught when we are convinced that we did our stop correctly? The story of Luc; he got a ticket for not doing a COMPLETE stop.

*************
Hello,
I just got a ticket (154$ and 3 demerit points) for not doing a “COMPLETE” stop. The word “complete” is very important here since it is really pulled by the hair. I was alone in my car so I don’t have any witness. The young officer didn’t look me in the eyes when she gave me the ticket; she wasn’t standing beside my window when she gave me my papers, but she was behind standing next to the passenger seat behind me stretching her arms (I think she also taught in was exaggerated).

I have a good file; I had my licence for 22 years and never got implicated in an accident or collision. It is my forth ticket (plus a few parking tickets). I got a ticket for the same reason two months before in the same district (St-Sauveur), I was still a bit asleep and I pass a stop without even noticing it. I didn’t contest that one and I paid for it.

Is it worth it to contest ?

Fine not guilty do I need to pay ?

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

There is not only the drivers that need to face the music with the police officers… Here is the story of the ticket that a bus driver got… guilty or not that needs to be proven, but he is asking for is fine: if I am not guilt, do I need to pay ?

Here is his story and the answer…

***

Hello Sir,

I am a bus driver since 1989. I never lost a demerit point until June 1st 2009.

On June 1st, an officer follows my bus, after I did my second stop (American style), he puts his lights on.

I never saw him beside me since I was answering a customer that needed information. I lost 3 demerit points and got a 154$ fine.

I paid it… then, 2 days later, a driver tells me that my stopping lights are not working on the bus… I went 4 times at the garage after the incident so that the mechanist could find the problem. I was victim of the bad functioning of the bus, but I can’t do anything since it was already too late.

But, on August 23 of 2009, near 7pm (there was no hour on the ticket), we were 3 girls in my car.

At the corner of Bella Vista and Pinson in St-Basile, I did my stop on Bella Vista in order to see the street on my left (it’s a three way lane).

An officer is waiting. I am stopped when I see the officer on my left with his lights on. I got caught an other time for my stop

In the middle of the street…

Yesterday, I got back on the location to see how I couldn’t see the MIDDLE of the street and that is when I saw that I needed to move forward after the stop in order to safely see Pinson Street. I took some pictures. (more…)
