Hello
First of all, I would like to thank you for your advice and your assistance. Initially, I would say that the tickets here are excessively expensive! Second, I will try to expose my problem.
I am a permanent resident and I have been here in Montreal for 10 months. Of course, I have a foreign driver’s license (from Tunisia) and I drove before since I‘m student here. When I got my residency no one told me I could not drive with my Tunisian license. (moreover, they do not explain a thing and there is no assistance to the immigrants it is another issue to be discussed, but not for now).
I would like to draw your attention to certain laws here in that have no logic. I’ve been told that the French could drive with their French license, but I wonder …
First of all, signaling in France (in Europe also) is completely different from the one in North America, then signaling in Tunisia is exactly the same in France since Tunisia is under a French protectorate.
Also we ask us (Tunisian) not only to take the theoretical exam which is ok, but we also ask us to take the practical exam… Do they think we drive bogeys back in Tunisia!
I was driving one evening. The light turned green and I turn into a street I did not know. The police intercepted me and before asking me for my papers, the officer started to talk to me on a jollier tone; I did not understood a thing. Finally she said that I was heading in the wrong direction. I did not realize it because the street was deserted.
At my great surprise the two tickets are of the amount of 581$!! I wonder how and on what basis they assess these amounts??
Sincerely I am frustrated and I feel a certain injustice (not for my traffic ticket).
What can I do and is there a solution for me since I can’t afford the tickets because I work at the minimum wage?
Thank you in advance and my most sincere greetings.
